Closing Seminar on the JICA Grassroots
Technical Cooperation Project “Building a Business Model for
ICT Startup Human Resource Development Targeting Youth and
Women” Held in Tunisia
On September 18, 2025, Prof. Abderazek Ben Abdallah
attended the closing ceremony of the JICA-supported initiative
held at the Cité des Sciences in Tunis. The event marked the
successful completion of a collaborative project dedicated to
fostering innovative training programs for youth and women in
the field of ICT start-ups. Launched in January 2023 at the
Higher Institute of Information and Communication Technologies
(ISTIC), University of Carthage, in partnership with the
University of Aizu, the initiative has already shown tangible
impact. Several young Tunisian participants have begun launching
their own ventures, underscoring the effectiveness of this
forward-looking curriculum. During the ceremony, Prof. Ben
Abdallah had the honor of briefly exchanging words with His
Excellency Ambassador Takeshi Osuga, Ambassador of Japan to
Tunisia. He also met and engaged in meaningful discussion with
Mr. Malek Kochlef, Director of International Cooperation at the
Ministry of Higher Education. These conversations reflected a
shared commitment to advancing international academic
collaboration and highlighted the transformative potential of
technology-driven education.

Development of
an embedded
biochip for real-time ECG monitoring in elderly
patients, May
27, 2009
Developed
an embedded biochip for real-time ECG monitoring in
elderly patients, as part of the BANSON project.
This initiative focuses on advancing personalized and
preventive healthcare technologies through the integration
of biomedical sensing and embedded systems. The BANSON
biochip offers a compact, energy-efficient solution
tailored to geriatric care, enabling continuous
electrocardiogram (ECG) tracking with minimal disruption
to daily activities. Designed for body-area networks, it
supports seamless data acquisition, edge processing, and
secure wireless transmission to healthcare providers. The
project addresses critical challenges in elderly care—such
as early detection of cardiac irregularities and
unobtrusive long-term monitoring—while emphasizing
reliability, privacy, and user comfort.
