SAISUA and CSIP jointly organized Fourth International Talk on June 27 (Wed), 2007 from 18:00 to 19:30 at the Lounge of Research Quadrangle. There were total 22 participants with a breakdown of 15 university students and 7 from university faculty and staff members. First speaker was Mr. Takahiro Machino, master student. He went to University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, for three weeks in February/March 2007. He stayed at a B&B hotel in Dublin and commuted to UCD by bus with one-hour journey for one way. He stayed with PhD students of his host Professor C. Bleakley, attended the seminars and had discussions with them several times. Second speaker was Ms. Fumiko Ohori, senior student. She attended a short-term study program at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (RHIT) for two weeks in March, 2007. She stayed at the university dormitory and enjoyed her campus life with her roommate and friends. She explained in details about the classes that she took during the program. After each talk, an active Q&A session was held with many questions. Their talks were very rewarding and helpful for the students who are interested in a short-term study programin abroad. (Next international talk is scheduled in October.)

(Extracts from comments of the participants)

  1. I have a desire to participate in a short-term study program in abroad. So the talks were very useful to me. Especially the talk by Ms. Ohori was helpful to understand the campus life and the classes at RHIT. (junior student)
  2. From their talks, I felt the cultural differences in many occasions between Japan and Ireland/USA. Common knowledge are not "common" in everywhere. My interest to go to an overseas university has increased more and more after their talks. (junior student)
