Travel directions

The University of Aizu is located in Aizu-Wakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture in the Tohoku Region of Japan. Aizu-Wakamatsu City can be reached by train from Narita International Airport or by car most conveniently as follows: Map

    By train

* From Narita Airport to Tokyo
     There are two railways connecting Narita and Tokyo:
  JR Line
Narita Express The N'EX (Narita Express) - trip to Tokyo Station takes less than 1 hour, and the fare is 2.940 yen. The fare increases during peak periods. All seats are reserved and can be booked through any of JR offices.
Express Ordinary & Rapid trains - about 1.5 hours and 1.280 yen.
Tickets can also be purchased at Narita Airport's basement level JR counter or ticket machine.
  Keisei Line
Keisei Skyliner The Keisei Skyliner express train departs from Narita Airport for Nippori and Ueno stations in Tokyo. The trip to Ueno Station (for Shinkansen transfer) takes about an hour, and the fare is 1.920 yen. Luggage space is available.
Express Express & Limited Express - about 1.3 hours and 1.000 yen. Tickets can be purchased at a booth on the basement level of either terminal.

JR Tohoku Shinkansen  (timetable)
Tohoku Shinkansen "Bullet Train" departs from Central Tokyo Terminal (Tokyo Station) to the North of Japan every 20 minutes. The names of trains are YAMABIKO and AOBA. Trip to Koriyama takes about 1.5 hours. Fare is 7,970 yen for reserved seat. Note that some trains pass Koriyama Station without stop.

* From Koriyama to Aizu-Wakamatsu

Local train
Trip to Aizu-Wakamatsu takes approx. 1-1.5 hours and costs 1.100 yen (1.500 yen in case of express train).

You can buy the whole set of tickets (Narita - Tokyo - Koriyama - Aizu) at Narita Airport if you use JR Narita Line, or at Tokyo Central Station (Tokyo - Koriyama - Aizu).
Bus (timetable) and taxi service to the University leaves from the front of the Aizu-Wakamatsu train station. English language traveler's information (train schedule assistance, subway maps, regional tourist pamphlets, etc.) is available at the Tourist Information Center of the Japanese National Tourist Organization (JNTO) in Terminal 2 of Narita International Airport.

    By car
Via Joban Jidosha-do (Expressway)
Car One way trip takes 4.5 - 5.5 hours. Cost: expressway charge ~5.500 yen, gasoline ~2.800 yen (~27 liters).
