On Wednesday, October 23, 2015, 321 first-year students of Iwaki Senior High School visited the University of Aizu.

The visit was held as "Super Science High School (SSH (*1) General Studies Hour- Global talent nurture training program", which aims to improve students' skills of listening and expression in English in Science and Mathematics fields and to develop their ability to implement research and presentation.

In the morning session, UoA Professor Alexandar P. Vazhenin (*2) gave an English lecture titled "The Evolution of Computers from Calculators to Artificial Intelligence". The students listened attentively to Professor Vazhenin's explanation about the history of computer, with electronic dictionaries in their hands.

In the afternoon, students separated into six groups and each of them attended a lecture given by faculty members on space science, computers, robotics, etc. The lectures turned out to be very rich in contents including faculty members' own experiences of study and research abroad in addition to explanations about cutting edge researches.
The students seemed to be highly stimulated by the talks about unknown technologies, overseas experiences, and other subjects rarely touched upon by high school classes.
