The Public University Corporation, the University of Aizu

Due to the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic, 1st quarter classes of AY2020 were conducted online in principle in May and only the classes that cannot be conducted online were conducted in person starting from June. Regarding the 2nd and 3rd quarter, the requirements for in-person classes were relaxed taking into consideration points such as educational effects and courses' characteristics while continuing to conduct online classes.

Regarding the 4th quarter starting from December 8, classes will be conducted either in-person, online, or both like 3rd quarter as follows depending on their educational effects and characteristics of each course as the number of new COVID-19 cases still remains high across the country, but considering student's body and mental, we will work on increasing of lectures of in-person in more courses.

Please note that these measures are subject to change as the situation regarding COVID-19 changes daily.

1. Class Implementation Methods

Classes will be conducted either in-person, online (interactive, on-demand, etc.), or both depending on the content of the classes.

Regarding online classes, instruction through Q&A sessions, etc. will be provided by using interactive communication tools not only during class hours of interactive classes but also other styles of classes such as on-demand classes.

2. Infection Prevention Measures

1) In-person classes

・Classrooms will be ventilated by keeping classroom doors and windows open.

・Spacious class rooms will be used, classroom capacity will be reduced roughly by half, and classroom desks and chairs will be arranged with spaces in between in order to maintain appropriate physical distance between students.

・If the number of students exceeds the capacity of a classroom, the class will be taught simultaneously in two classrooms.

(The class will be taught in person in one classroom and video of the class will be streamed in the other classroom. Interactions will be facilitated through two-way audio feed between the classrooms.

・Acrylic panels are installed between the seats where students sit side-by-side or face-to-face in rooms such as Computer Exercise Rooms in order to prevent droplet transmission.

2) Daily Infection Prevention Measures

Faculty members, administrative staff, and students are instructed to take the following infection prevention measures.

・Avoid the 3 Cs (closed spaces, crowded places, and close contact settings).

・Make sure to thoroughly implement basic infection prevention measures such as practicing physical distancing, wearing a mask, and hand sanitizing.

・Record activities on campus and health conditions such as temperature in the health check sheet daily and always carry it around.

・When having a fever or flu symptoms, etc., strive to maintain health by, among other things, staying at home refraining from coming to the university. (Absences from classes will be handled as excused absences in such a case.)

・Refrain from attending large parties at restaurants, pubs, and other similar venues.

・Do not use facilities, etc. where infection prevention measures have not been thoroughly implemented.

・When traveling outside Fukushima Prefecture, check the pandemic situation in the destination.

・When traveling to the regions where the risk of infection is high, make a careful decision on the necessity of the travel.
