Massively Parallel Computation:Synchronous vs.Asynchronous Designs

Nikolay N. Mirenkov,
Professor, Distributed Parallel Processing Laboratory

A set of multimedia signs to represent cellular automation-like algorithms was developed. These signs are watchable, hearable (audible), and executable. They combine features of animation/video clips with sounds and programs. Each frame of the clips shows a few configurations and/or spatial substitutions highlighting the points where computation should be specified and/or color should be changed. In addition, special animation films can be used to define iteration processes on a set of rules related to such signs. Frame-flow and data-flow technigues are allowed to be used for the implementation of computation.
