TOOLS FOR TEACHING COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE

Michael Kishinevsky,
Professor, Computer Education Laboratory

The long-term goal of the project was to provide the tools and the methods that will increase the productivity of the teaching process based on intensive using of computer education and multimedia tools. The emphasis has been made on teaching Computer Architecture and digital design, since these two courses form a basic ground for education at the Hardware Department.

We have achieved the following: A tool "Pipeline Simulator WinDLX" has been installed and intensively used for the course of Computer Architecture. Students (240 people both at the SW and HW departments) enjoied using it. Based on the cooperation with the English Electronic Design Education Consortium we have installed and used the Computer Architecture Introducing tool. This introductory course was used for teaching Computer Arhitecture. Other tools have been evaluated for teaching Logic Design and Computer Arcitecture.
