Shape Modeling and Rendering on Parallel Computers

Vladimir V. Savchenko,
Professor, Shape Modeling Laboratory

One of the ways to cut down considerably the calculation time in surface modeling consists of resorting to parallel computing. In 1994 we concentrated on the research and development under the PVM system. Our shape modeling scheme, based on functionally defined 3D geometric objects, has proven to be useful in computer graphics, geometric modeling, and animation, and combines high flexibility with easy numerical handling. Experimental results in time performance evaluation of implicit surface poligonization, animation of volumetric objects, and simulation of a growing mammalian cells show the appropriateness of our approach for handling large data sets.
