Using multimedia techniques, we are developing educational software on Japanese history, focusing on the Aizu region. We intend to use hypertext and hypermedia to promote free form exploration of text and visual and aural materials. In exploring the history of a region distant from centers of power, the materials will provide students with a different perspective on Japanese history than that usually provided by standard texts.
