Shin-Soba Festival

The University Cafeteria held an event, "Shin-Soba (noodles made from newly-harvested buckwheat) Festival" on Thursday, October 20, 2011. Buckwheat is known as one of the most famous agricultural products in the Aizu region. Shin-soba, using buckwheat harvested this autumn, is extremely rich in flavor. Not only the University students, faculty and administrative staff, but also many people from the local communities visited the Cafeteria to try the taste of the seasonal local food.
This event is held annually to provide people with opportunities to enjoy great autumn food of the Aizu region. In cooperation with two soba factories in Aizu-Bange Town and the Town certified farmers' association, the soba lunch set was sold for 500 yen, served with a plate of Bange-grown vegetable tempura. There were long lines of people waiting for their turn in front of the soba corner. 200 soba sets were sold out in only one hour.
Some students said that it was nice to have an opportunity to taste the flavor of the Aizu region. The Cafeteria will try to create new items in their menu, using locally-grown ingredients and products. The University Cafeteria is open to the public. Please feel free to visit and enjoy the delicious meals!
