Best Paper Award to Prof. Sampe
Assistant Professor Takeaki Sampe of CAIST/ARC-Environment (*1) received the Yamamoto-Shono Best Paper Award from the Meteorological Society of Japan. This award is given to excellent papers written by young researchers in the field of meteorology. His award-winning paper has titled "Large-scale dynamics of the Meiyu-baiu rainband: Environmental forcing by the westerly jet", revealed the formation mechanism of the Baiu rainband along the jet stream.
He submitted this paper to the "Journal of Climate" on March, 2009, when he was a postdoctoral fellow of International Pacific Research Center, the University of Hawaii. Since October 2009, he has been dedicated to environmental information science at the CAIST/ARC-Environment.
His research results are expected to help people understand the long-term variability of Baiu and improvement of simulations and future projections of Baiu with numerical modeling. Assistant Professor Sampe expressed his hope by saying, "It is my honor that my paper has been highly regarded.I worked very hard on this paper. Based on these results, I will further promote meteorological research."
The award conferment ceremony will be held at the Autumn Meeting of the Meteorological Society of Japan in November.
